British art director and photographer. Having left school without qualifications, Mankowitz chose to go into photography. After impressing the photographer Tom Blau, he served a brief, but intense apprenticeship with Camera Press Ltd. He opened his own studio in 1963, and would go on to work with Marianne Faithfull, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Free, Traffic, and Kate Bush, to name but a few. He is the eldest son of Wolf Mankowitz. Born: 3rd August 1946, in London, England.
