A.k.a. [kataplismik]
French acoustic rock duo. Their cinematographic music borrows arrangements from flamenco to jazz, going through progressive tones to post-rock accents. [kataplismik] was formed in 2002 as a solo project with a minimalist slant. At that time, Flavien offered to his listeners a moody blend of electronic, indus and post-rock music, sustained by frequent improvisations and haste recordings. 2009 was a watershed in the history of the band, mainly due to Franck’s arrival on the project. Such musical encounter clarified the true nature of [kataplismik]’s music, which started to include tracks well thought out, repeatedly played and finely honed. The set list Hypnose (Hypnosis), played between 2010 and 2012, consists in a genuine audiovisual performance. Graphic projections, intertwined with the paradoxical atmosphere triggered by the interpretation of electric (guitar and drums) and acoustic (two classic guitars) tracks, leaded the spectators to a strange sonorous and medically artificial experience. Thenceforth, [kataplismik] decided to primarily dedicate themselves and their work to the potential of the classical guitar. Apparence (Appearance), acoustic album released by Brainstorming Records in September 2013, was greeted with strong praise from the critics. Three instrumentalists feature six of the nine tunes of the production, enriched by the accordion, brass instruments, the glockenspiel, the piano, and the transverse flute. Tendre Mort (Tender Death), an EP more dense and discreet, was also released in 2013. In the same year, the duo performed in numerous concerts, including a tour with Sons of Frida in France and in Belgium. Between 2014 and 2015, [kataplismik] held a couple of tours in France and Switzerland with Thomas Le Corre. Between Cheval de Frise, Ennio Morricone & Nostromo's Hysteron Proteron.
