Cretan artist and researcher [lute, Bulgari [Cretan Tamboura with 3 cords], Vocals, Music] player born at Χανιά, Crete, Greece in 1984. Son to Στέλιος Λαϊνάκης, brother to Χαρά Λαϊνάκη The friends, teachers and collaborators of his father, legends of Cretan music such as Κώστας Παπαδάκης, Γιώργος Τζιμάκης, Ιορδάνης Τσομίδης and many other important musicians, contributed to Leonidas’ musical education and way of life. He has participated in many concerts, social events and presentations of Cretan music in venues such as The Athens Concert Hall, the Lycabettus Theatre, the Petra Theatre and many more theatres and conservatoires. In 2004, he formed his own music group which performs Ταμπαχανιώτικα [Tabachaniotika], Syrta of Kissamos, traditional music from the rest of Crete and Greece, old Rebetika (Greek Urban Popular Songs) and songs from Smyrni (Izmir). He also teaches bulgari and Cretan lute at the Venizeleio Odeon of Chania. 2007, he did the music cover for the documentary about Agrotourism in Crete by T. Papadoulakis and the Chania Prefecture. He also composed the original score for the film Perissios, presenting the works of sculpture on Cretan stone by Giorgos Koutroumpas. 2010, Lainakis took part in the first Musical Meeting “Mesogeiotopia – Mediterranean Music Tradition” in Mytilini, presenting a seminar on lute, bulgari and Syrtos of Chania. He wrote the music for a video-presentation of the village Kantanos of the Chania Prefecture, for the Unesco Committee on areas that are symbols of Peace. He is the organizer of the Rotonda Music Festival. February 2011, Lainakis took part in the Los Angeles FDF Festival, where he enjoyed great success. He also presented the Tabachaniotika for the first time in the USA, in San Francisco and New York.
