Boris Filanovsky (b. 1968) is a Russian avant-garde composer from Saint Petersburg, an artistic director of Ensemble Института ПРО АРТЕ since 2000. Filanovsky studied composition with Boris Tishchenko at the St Petersburg Conservatory and graduated in 1995. In 1998, Boris also studied at Ircam, where he attended lectures/workshops with Paul-Heinz Dittrich and Louis Andriessen. He established the 'New Music Technology' program at the PRO ARTE Institute in 2003, dedicated to sound design and live electronics. Filanovsky was an artist-in-residence at Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside, California (2006) and Berliner Künstlerprogramm des DAAD (2013/14). Ensemble Mosaik, Ensemble 2E2M, Orkest De Volharding, Doelen Ensemble, Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Da Capo Chamber Players, Ensemble Intégrales had commissioned Filanovsky works. Other musicians and collectives who performed his music include Schönberg Ensemble, Vlad Pessin, John Storgårds, Avanti! Orchestra (conductor Susanna Mälkki), Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, Nieuw Ensemble (conductor Otto Tausk), Frances-Marie Uitti, Russian National Orchestra, and The Ural Philharmonic Orchestra (conductor Dmitri Liss). Since 2005, Boris Filanovsky had been performing as an extreme vocalist/narrator. He collaborated with various artists, including Teodor Currentzis, Reinbert de Leeuw, Pierre Roullier, Roland Kluttig, and Fedor Lednev.
