A.k.a. Дмитрий Левонович Атовмян

Dmitry Atovmyan (1952–2004) was a Soviet/Russian composer, conductor and arranger from Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Military Music School in 1970 and studied at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1973, Atovmyan became an artistic director of vocal-instrumental ensemble "Muscovites" (ВИА «Москвичи»). After that, Dmitry worked as a musical director of the Moscow Theatre of Miniatures for a couple of years. From 1976 to 1985, he was a music producer and senior arranger of the Melodies for Friends series at Goskontsert. Since 1977, he had been occupied as an arranger for Melodia Ensemble and All-Union Recording Studio. He worked as the chief conductor of the famous Leonid Utesov's Orchestra from 1985 to 1989. In 1996, Atovmyan was commissioned by the Moscow Government to arrange the new Moscow hymn. In his original compositions, Atovmyan was trying to blend elements of jazz, rock and symphonic music. He arranged and composed scores for many Russian movies in 1992–2004, collaborated with notable composers and artists, such as Eduard Artemiev, Maxim Dunayevsky, and Alexander Gradsky, and authored over 5000 arrangements. The year after Dmitry Atovmyan passed away, his widow Anna Kagarlitskaya initiated the release of Solo for Orchestra album, which was awaiting publication for more than a decade.
