A.k.a. مزاهر (Mazāhir)

Mazaher is an Egyptian ensemble performing Zar ritual music. The musicians of Mazaher, - أم سامح (Umm Sameh), أم حسن (Umm Hassan) and نور الصباح (Nour al-Sabah), are among the last remaining Zar practitioners in Egypt. Zār is a community healing ritual of drumming and dancing whose tradition is carried on mainly by women (men have the secondary roles) and whose main participants are women. The ensemble is being upheld by Egyptian Center for Culture & Art and aims at preserving this old tradition.
