Warning: Wide Dynamic Range / Play Loud / Watch Heavy Peaks 1. Applicants Must Possess The Following Skills #7 My obsession with work, in concept and practice, necessity and desire - constructed entirely of a small sample of my wife and me speaking, reading want ads, thoroughly processed. 2.Cluster Fantasy I I am fascinated, like Feldman and Xenakis, with that point of perception at which complexity dissolves into simplicity, and simplicity reveals intrinsic complexity. I find it exhilarating to lose my sense of what exactly is happening in a piece of music, or whether, in fact, anything is happening at all. 3.Applicants Must Possess The Following Skills #6 1.Tallea II In which dozens of more or less random asynchronous cycles of manipulated data that intersect, interact, and occasionally cancel one another out, are imposed upon 3 samples of the human voice, speaking and singing in an echo of processes that I trust will be familiar even if the results are not. No sound sources other than the voices of my wife, myself, and a mystery guest(!) were used. An improvisatory version of this piece was perfomed live at the Werehouse July 14th, 2004, in Winston-Salem, NC. Talea I was an instrumental work for 2 violins and cello that premiered at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in 1998, in Winston-Salem.
