Musician of Rock
Aaron Carey began playing guitar at the age of ten. Over the past two decades, he has collaborated with many local musicians in bands as diverse as Angelrust, Forest of the Soul, and Harvist, but is probably best known for his classical guitar playing and teaching. Carey has taught guitar to hundreds of students in Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland, teaching in all styles. For the past two years, Carey has been a faculty member at Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia and Director of the Bethany College Classical Guitar Ensemble. He also teaches at The Center of Music and Art in Wintersville, Ohio. Carey plays an eclectic variety of classical and jazz pieces from all over the world when performing solo. Recently, Aaron Carey has been composing and performing under the name “Nechochwen”, a Lenni-Lenape Indian name given to him long ago. The music written as Nechochwen is unique blend of classical guitar, dark atmospheric soundscapes, and folky acoustic guitar passages. An additional acoustic project called Forest of the Soul has brought some attention to Carey and collaborator Andrew Della Cagna from National Public Radio stations in West Virginia and Texas. Aaron Carey has composed and performed with several extreme metal bands over the years, including Ohio’s Angelrust. He has been, and continues to be, a session member in the Indiana based outfit Harvist, a folk-tinged black metal enigma.
