b : 1881 in Romania (outside of Bucharest) d : 1963 in USA Early 20th century klezmer composer, pianist, violin player and bandleader. He emigrated to New York around the turn of the century. Between 1917 and 1938, he made many recordings as a bandleader of Jewish, Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, Romanian and Polish music. Among them were six klezmer violin solos with his daughter, Sylvia Schwartz.
