A.k.a. Paulo Nascimento & Philippe Quenum The Funk Element
"Access 58 are Paulo Nascimento & Philippe Quenum, who met in London in the mid-nineties. Paulo Nascimento (AKA Urban Ritual) was born in Portugal, trained in classical music then graduated from London's Institute of Music and Technology in 1993. He produces since 1995 and founded Access 58 with Philippe Quenum a year later. Born in France and living between Switzerland and the U.K., Quenum has been DJing since the early 80's worldwide. The music of Access 58 is a form of minimal and tribal techno with a touch of house and experimental sounds. Their live set is a slamming, funky dancefloor experience, especially when complemented by the DJing skills of Quenum. Having initially released music on London's Pacific Records imprint since 1997, Access 58 have established their own record label a year later while putting out remixes and other tracks on Mental Groove, Primary, React, Eukatech, Artform, Mentor, Pocket/Music Man, On Test, Pure Plastic, Mutant Soul, Front Room, The Patterns Of Change. They now release on Music Man and use the Access 58 label for other artists and collaborations. Since 2001, Access 58 have also teamed up with classical/jazz trained Portuguese keyboardist Nuno Filipe for the Jaam project, whose releases on Mutant Soul Records also feature remixes by Rollercone, Alex Attias and Jimpster. Mutant Soul is their outlet for more downtempo, house, broken beat and jazzy releases. Collaborators and remixers of Access 58 include Trevor Rockliffe, Colin Dale, Mark Broom, Marco Lenzi, Mark Williams, Umek, The Advent, Cari Lekebusch, Steve Stoll, Pacou, Jamie Anderson and Valentino Kanziani. About twenty Access 58 tracks have been licensed to countless compilations and labels, among which Eukatech, News, Trust The DJ, V2, XXX, Primal/Pure Sonik, DJ Magazine, Intergroove, Molecular, Area Code +221, Next Era and others. Access 58 have played some amazing clubs & events such as The End, Base, Velvet Rooms, The Complex, The Falcon, Kiss FM, Fashion Week @ ICA & Natural History Museum in London and Birmingham's Q Club, the Culture Club in Skopje, Holland's Ahoy, Doornroosje & Melkweg, Formula 111 in Tel Aviv, Tresor, Douala & Schoene Aussichten in Germany , Belgium's Soundstation and Marseilles' Le Cargo".
