A.k.a. Adam Benjamin Silverman
Adam Silverman (b. 1973) is an American composer and associate professor of Music Theory and Composition at West Chester University. He studied at the University of Miami School of Music, Vienna Musikhochschule, and Yale University School Of Music, where Silverman earned his M.A. and M.M.A. degrees. In 2003, he received a doctoral degree from Yale. Adam also studied 'microtonal just intonation' with visionary composer Ben Johnston, who already retired from teaching at that time, but agreed to give Silverman private lessons at his home in Rocky Mount, NC. The composer began his career in the early 2000s as a founder of Minimum Security Composers Collective with Dennis DeSantis, Roshanne Etezady, and Ken Ueno. Their evening-length production for Eighth Blackbird sextet was featured on tour across America, including performances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and other prominent venues. Adam Silverman also started writing for leading American new music ensembles, with such commissions as Sturm for Amelia Piano Trio, Kicking and Screaming for Albany Symphony Orchestra, and Ricochet for Strata (3) and Piccolo Spoleto Festival. Silverman created an eclectic collection of music, ranging from works for percussion ensemble, wind ensemble, accompanied and unaccompanied cello, to saxophone and wind ensemble concertos or a double concerto for violin, cello and orchestra. One of his best known works is Korczak's Orphans grand opera for a large cast of soloists, orchestra and children's choir, dedicated to Janusz Korczak. Adam Silverman composed music for Le Colonel des Zouaves (2005), a Dadaist theater piece by Olivier Cadiot, set for solo actor and men's chorus, as well as the score for an animated film Little Fiel (2016) based on the artwork of Mozambican sculptor Fiel dos Santos.
