In 1928 the family moved to San Antonio and the brothers began their musical career. In the mid-1930s they played in San Antonio clubs. With Simon Garcia, they formed a trio; the Hawaiian Serenaders. In the late '30s Adolph worked for Tom Dickey and The Showboys. In 1938 he formed "Adolph Hofner and the San Antonians". Fiddle player J.R. Chatwell sat in on some of Adolph's recording sessions. Drummer was George Koudelka of Flatonia, Texas. In 1950, with sponsorship by Pearl Beer Company the band became known as "Adolph Hofner and the Pearl Wranglers". Musicians included Charlie Ross, Leonard Brown, Al Baxter, George Koudelka, and the Hofner brothers.
