According to the notes from the sleeve of the Discafrique 12" release of "Hatisitose" by the Bhundu Boys, which includes one track by African Herb, AF were formed by members of Thomas Mapfumo's backing band Blacks Unlimited splitting from Mapfumo in 1983.
