First official CD release of these early 1980's tracks from AFTERIMAGE, a collaboration between guitarist A PRODUCE's Trance Port label and AFTERIMAGE singer Daniel Voznick's Strategic Records label. These are the complete studio recordings from this early 1980’s postpunk group, along with a batch of songs recorded live at the Whisky A-Go-Go in 1982, plus several later tracks. The live tracks especially show what a powerful band this could be, melding a jazzy postpunk flavor (the sax being an instrument not often heard in bands of the time) with a bit of surf music and a few JOY DIVISION borrowings. Voznick's later AFTERIMAGE recordings (2 of which end this CD) move into a funkier, R&B flavor, while still retaining his Bryan Ferry-inflected vocal style. -Bruce Licher
