Despite being a part of the music industry for decades, releases that bear Akira’s name have been few and far between, with most of them coming from his post-punk heydays in São Paulo in the mid 80’s. 40% Foda / Maneirissimo’s very first vinyl release is a showcase of tracks from that era, unearthed cassette tapes that have been mastered and pressed to vinyl and are being brought to the public. All of the material is old but unheard and until now unreleased. The EP features 7 short tracks that take cues from Akira’s own japanese descendance contextualized in an urban São Paulo whilst also making nods to pop culture that were relevant in Brasil at the time (A2 is named Miami Vice, an homage to the show). Tracks jump from genre to genre while leaving a thread that binds them together, the fact that every single one of these tracks sound like the background music to all those TV shows that were birthed around the peak MIDI era. A great collection of tracks from a mysterious man who remains for the most part mysterious to this day. Even the people who run this label say he can be hard to reach from time to time.
