Alessandro Porta was born in Dusino San Michele (near Asti, Piedmont) on 13rd December 1944. As a child he was passionate about drawing and mechanics. After obtaining a diploma in mechanical Engineering from the Technical Institute Plana in Turin, he was hired at the Centro Stile Fiat, designing vehicles that went into production in the Seventies. Together with two partners he then founded the Turin-based Form Design Center company, which works in collaboration with the most famous Italian design studios. His daughter Floriana Porta is a well-known watercolour painter, photographer and poet.
