Alan Bates, CBE (born February 17, 1934, Allestree, Derbyshire, England – died December 27, 2003, London, England) was an English actor who came to prominence in the 1960's. Bates was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1996, and was knighted in 2003.
