Artist Portrait

Alan Escombe-Wolhuter

b, voc, GB
Musician of Rock and Pop

Bassist from Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Escombe first played in a group called The Phantoms in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. After relocating to England, he replaced Calvin Coleman as the bassist for The Shake Spears in 1965. The group was mainly active in Belgium, and after they split up, Escombe founded the prog rock group Fynn McCool together with Chris Stone (5), Mick Fowler, and Mick Carter (6). After several lineup changes the group split up in early 1972. They only released one album, which is now a highly sought-after collector's item. In 1978, Escombe co-founded Rock-It Cargo, a company handling world-wide airfreight and oceanfreight for groups on tour. He retired to Australia in 2005.
