A.k.a. Ali Phillips
African hip-hop artist from Lomé, Togo (West Africa). Born Ali Phillips and better known as Ali Jezz, Ali began his music career as a dancer at a club "Maquina Loca" and at known arts cafe called "Moustache". It was at night clubs like "Booling" and later "Privilege Night Club" in the mid nineties, when he first began to rap. He eventually converted his 'zouglous' dance group to a rap group known as K-Grav, which had been joined by his cousin Dub'n'Flezz from Paris, France. Dedicating himself to his rapping career, Ali Jezz became one of the initiators of the Boomstar Show on Togolese radio station Nostagie, together with Eric MC and Daddy Creator. This marked the beginning of his radio career, which led to his position as a DJ for radio station Xsolaire. In 2003, Ali Jezz released his debut album "One Million". The album featured 8 titles, four of which were instrumentals. In 2004, he appeared on the compilation Entre II Mondes which appeared on Hope Row Record, the first hip-hop record label in Togo, of which Ali Jezz was a co-founder. The song "Hip Hop Respect" from the release, which featured 15 MC's including Ali Jezz, won the "tube rap 2004" award by the end of the year. His sophomore album "Police" comprised of 12 tracks and featuring such artists as APOK and Nathalie Adson. It also featured the Dub'n Flezz solo track "Sermon". In 2009, Ali Jezz returned with another album titled "Hip Hop Grand Format", which featured artists such as King Mensah and Noelie.
