A.k.a. علي جهاد راسي (ʾAlī Jihād Rāsi)
علي جهاد راسي / Ali Jihad Racy (born 1943 in Ibl al-Saqi, Southern Lebanon, moved to USA in 1968) is a Lebanese born American performer, composer. Dr. Racy holds a Phd. in Musicology and is Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of California at Los Angeles. Racy is internationally recognized for his extraordinary musicianship and his numerous publications, including his award-winning book, Making Music in the Arab World: The Culture and Artistry of Tarab (Cambridge University Press, 2003). He is a master of many traditional instruments, particularly the nay, and the buzuq.
