Legendary Hindustani classical vocalist, considered one of the most influential figures in Hindustani classical music. Born August 15, 1912, in Indore, India, died Feb 13, 1974 in a car crash in Calcutta. Ustad Amir Khan had a rich baritone voice with a three-octave range, and could move effortlessly in any octave. He was the founder of the Indore Gharana and received the Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1967 and the Padma Bhushan in 1971.
