Amy Krueger

frh,

Newly appointed fourth horn of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Amy Krueger is a founder and horn player of the New Chicago Brass. Prior to her appointment with the LPO, Ms. Krueger was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, where she was appointed a Citizen Musician Fellow. During this time, she worked closely with Yo-Yo Ma, members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and administration, and fellow Civic Members to serve the community and enhance the reach of classical music. Leading to her appointment as a Citizen Musician Fellow, Ms. Krueger has had a life-long passion for community service. She has traveled to Guatemala six times with a church group to work with orphans, and began an annual concert series at her church, Horns for Humanity, to support the mission and other charities. As part of the MusiCorps brass quintet, she helped develop educational programming to perform at Chicago Public Schools and various Chicago Park District sites to children and community members who otherwise would not hear classical music. She developed a passion for reaching underprivileged and at-risk youth when she and other Citizen Musician Fellows collaborated with Storycatchers Theatre to play in a musical theater production written and performed by incarcerated teenage girls. She looks forward to similar work in the future. As an orchestral musician, Ms. Krueger has worked with conductors Cliff Colnot, Harry Bickett, Alastair Willis, Carlos Miguel Prieto, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. She has also performed with the Chicago Symphony under the batons of maestros Charles Dutoit, Pablo Heras-Casado, and Riccardo Muti. Other orchestral appearances include the Sinfonietta Nova, the DuPage, Elmhurst, Muncie, and One World Symphony Orchestras, and can be heard on the soundtracks of two upcoming feature films. Ms. Krueger attended Ball State University, where she studied meteorology and Spanish, as well as horn, under the tutelage of the late Dr. Fred Ehnes. She holds a Master of Music degree from Rutgers University, where she studied with Dr. Douglas Lundeen. She can be heard on the Rutgers Wind Ensemble’s 2013 release, “Remembering the Beach,” as the soloist on Maslanka’s Symphony No. 4. Upon her return to Chicago, she studied with Dale Clevenger at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University. She has had further studies with Michael Mulcahy, David Griffin, James Smelser, William VerMeulen, and Daniel Gingrich. In her spare time, Amy can be found nose-deep in the latest urban fantasy novel, watching various vampire TV shows, getting her hands dirty in the garden, or cooking up experimental vegetarian dishes.
