Andrea Poggio was born in Alessandria, Italy in 1982. He currently lives in Milan, where he practices as an advocate. His musical career begun in 2003 when he founded Green Like July, a group with whom he recorded three albums: “May This Winter Freeze My Heart” (Candy Apple Records, 2005), “Four-Legged Fortune” (Ghost Records, 2011) and “Build a Fire” (La Tempesta, 2013), all well received by both public and critics. During the Green Like July years, Andrea focused on analytical studies of American traditional music (particularly notable in “Four-Legged Fortune”) and on an active collaboration with producer AJ Mogis, associated with the vast music scene around Saddle Creek Records (both “Four-Legged Fortune” and “Build a Fire” have been recorded in the eminent ARC Studios in Omaha, Nebrasca). “Build a Fire” is an album of diverse nature that marks the beginning of an important collaboration with Enrico Gabrielli, which consequently triggers Poggio’s turn towards exploration of the pivotal elements of his next productions, such as vocal layers and less traditional or common arrangements. Since 2014, when Green Like July project came to an end, Andrea Poggio embarked on a solo career and begun to write in Italian. “Controluce” is an effect of those varied experiences and an expression of Poggio’s crave for creation of more ambitious and original sound, far away from traditional pop music structures.
