Originally from Sutton, South London, he grew up in the Portsmouth Citadel Corps before moving to Bristol Easton to complete his postgraduate studies at Bristol University. In 1984 he moved to Enfield, where he joined the Enfield Citadel Band under the leadership of Bandmaster James Williams and currently serves as the Deputy Bandmaster.
