Ankur Malhotra is co-founder of Amarrass Records, a multi-faceted independent record label, artist management and events company based in India and the US. An avid musicologist, he explores, engages, and connects musical traditions from around the world and his work has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, BBC Radio, NBC15 News, Rolling Stone India, The WIRE, Songlines Magazine and more. Ankur works out of Madison, Wisconsin (US) and New Delhi, India and manages various aspects of Amarrass including artist bookings, tours, music production, sales, technology and marketing. Since founding the label, he has successfully booked, managed and produced tours in the United States with folk and traditional artists from India (Lakha Khan, Barmer Boys). He is a well-respected DJ/Radio show host, a photographer, and founder of Madison Music Review—producer of Madison's eclectic street music festivals (Musique Electronique, Willy Street Beats). He has served on the Board of Directors of Madison's community radio station WORT 89.9 FM, a WOMEX Jury Member and Panelist in 2013, and is a music advisor to the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA). Ankur holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
