A.k.a. António José dos Reis Mercê Chaparreiro
António Chaparreiro, guitarist and composer from Almeirim, Portugal, now living in Lisbon. Starting as a self-taught musician, he developed a multifaceted musical activity favouring free improvisation in which the guitar appears as a generator of sounds, noises and sonic textures. It now holds a Degree in Musicology by the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal). As a musician and composer, he participated in several projects in the area of New Improvised Music among which are: "Lumpen Trio" with Ernesto Rodrigues (Viola), Miguel Sá (Electronica) and Jorge Serigado (Bass); "A Parte Maldita" with Abdul Moimême (Saxophone), Nuno Rebelo (Guitar) and Hernâni Faustino (Double Bass); "Mon(o)rqustra" with Fala Mariam, João Castro Pinto, Miguel Sá, Nuno Rebelo, Peter Bastian, Pedro Gonçalves, Rui Alves, Rui Viana, Sei Miguel; and "Variable Geometry Orchestra". During his activity as a musician he played with Rui Cardoso, Jorge Palma, Ernesto Rodrigues, Nuno Rebelo, Emidio Buchinho, Carlos Zingaro, Carlos Santos, Miguel Sá and Jari Marjamäki, among others. He has several works published in his own name and as a participant in collaborative records.
