(November 4, 1922,Troy, New York -02/24/2001) Teacher, contemporary classical composer and author: Degree from the State University of New York. His undergraduate work was completed at Potsdam. Master's and doctorate at the University of Southern California. Advanced study (theory and composition) at Tanglewood and Bennington College. Head of the Department on Music Composition at the University of Southern California; starting in 1959. Composed over 100 works He is the author of the four-volume work, Projects in Musicianship. Created the Composer's Forum inviting guest composers such as Aaron Copland, Henry Mancini and many more.
