Date of Birth 2 March 1907 , Knob Noster, Missouri, USA Date of Death 23 June 1981 , Missouri, USA Luther W. Ossenbrink was known professionally as Arkie the Arkansas Woodchopper. He was a singer, yodeler and played the guitar, and recorded dozens of cowboy songs for Columbia, Gennett and ARC between 1928 and 1931. These sometimes appeared under pseudonyms ( "The West Virginia Rail Splitter", "James Burke", and "The Arkansas Rambler"). He debuted on the radio on KMBC in Kansas City in 1928, and joined the WLS Barn Dance in Chicago in 1929. He remained a headliner on The National Barn Dance until it went off the air in 1960.
