A.k.a. John Douglas Derksen
Canadian guitarist, singer and songwriter. Originally from Calgary, he settled in Winnipeg by 1956, joining Vic Siebert's The Sons Of The Saddle and soon becoming lead vocalist and guitarist. His popularity grew in 1957 after regular TV appearances with the band on Winnipeg's CBWT-TV. He left The Sons and Winnipeg for Toronto in 1958 where he appeared on CBC's "Country Hoedown" program and a stint at the Brown Derby. He landed a contract that year with Decca and headed to Nashville, where he recorded some sessions for them. In the early 60s he transitioned from country and rockabilly to to jazz as a member of The Johnny Lewis Trio.
