A.k.a. Astillero
Astillero formed in Mexico City in the early 80's to create project merging jazz with ethnic roots and includes Brazilian reeds musician Menconi and Mexican musicians Morel, Anguiano, and Pérez Sáez. At the time of formation, the members were all working at The National School of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Marco Antonio Morel (Acoustic Guitar) previously with Guadalupe Trigo Ensemble and Chabuca Granda. Renato Menconi "Mazola" (Tenor Sax and Flute) previosly with Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Joao Gilberto, Hermeto Pascoal, Toshico Akiyoshi, Lew Tabackin and Carmen McRae. Pablo Anguiano (Drums and Percussion) previouly with Viraje, Chabuca Granda, Fuego Nuevo, among others. Alejandro Pérez Sáez (Electric Bass) previosly working solo.
