Composer, Pianist (born 1986) A doctoral candidate in composition at the New England Conservatory of Music, Athena Adamopoulos, earned her Bachelor of Arts in composition at Harvard University and her Master of Music in composition at The Juilliard School. She has been commended in The New York Times, NY Post, New York Magazine, Latina Magazine, The New Yorker, WQXR, NPR, Antenna Trito Programma, the Greek News, and the National Herald as well as by Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Hillary Clinton in Washington D.C. In 2002, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Christopher O'Riley performed Soliloquy, the second movement of her sonata for cello and piano on O'Riley's radio program "From The Top". She is the recipient of four Morton Gould Awards presented by ASCAP, the National Foundation of the Arts Award, and is a Presidential Scholar. In May 2015, Athena performed in a benefit concert at the Megaron Mousikis with violinist Georgios Demertzis in support of Mazi gia to Paidi (Together for Children), a non-profit organization benefitting underprivileged children.
