Singer / Producer of R&B/Soul
A.k.a. Alexander Randolph Dickie Diamond Mr. Wiggles (2)
August was a dancer, singer, producer, and R&B pioneer born in 1937 in Richmond’s Southside. His real name is Alexander Randolph. Mr. Wiggles was also called Dickie Diamond. He joined the Navy in 1954, and then became a protégé of Richmond’s pioneering black DJ Allen Knight, which led to performing on package tours with the likes of Ruth Brown, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino. He would eventually own a record store, a grocery and a nightclub, in addition to his small, but rich, back catalog of prime soul and funk. In his hometown, many still equate him as the fiery militant voice of local talk radio and TV. For the last two decades he has been known as August Moon and was a regular on local Richmond cable as a political commentator in the 1980s and 1990s. Moon recorded as Mr. Wiggles in Philadelphia and New York in the 1960s. He claims this record was one of several he produced that had a young Jimi Hendrix playing on it. While that is possible, it has not been "confirmed.”
