Sleeve Notes The B.M.C. Concert Band—as it is now known the world over—was formed In 1924 at the Cowley, Oxford, Works of Morris Motors For nearly forty years the band carried the name of Morris Motors ‘and under this old heading were a household word in broadcasting and concert circles; they also held the title of Champions of the South gI7Ol'§8tllTIeS than any other band, including a "hat-trick" in 1956- In recent years, they have travelled extensively on the Continent, giving concerts and broadcasts in Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, and Scandinavia—Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Being part of the famous ''Men 0' Brass" unit (with Fairey and Foden's Bands), they toured Canada with them, under the conductorship of Harry Mortimer, who has been their Musical Director since 1945. The B.M.C. Concert Band are responsible for the organisation of the Brass Quartet and Solo Championships of Great Britain, recognised as one of the major annual events in the brass band calendar. The Organising Secretary of this, and also of the Band, is Tommy Morcombe, who is now almost a veteran, having served forty years with them, first as a player, and now as an administrator. All the members of the Band are employees of the British Motor Corporation at their Cowley (Oxford) Works.
