Singer of Latin
A.k.a. Manuel Pedro dos Santos

Baiano, artistic name of Manuel Pedro dos Santos (Santo Amaro da Purificação, December 5, 1870 - Rio de Janeiro, July 15, 1944), was a Brazilian singer renowned for his pioneering phonographic recordings at Casa Edison, one of the first recorders in Brazil and based in the then federal capital, with the lundu of Xisto Bahia, Isto É Bom, the first record for gramophone recorded in Brazil. Among the most abundant genres in his discography were modinhas and lundus. However, his memory in the present day comes from the fact that in January 1917 he recorded the samba Pelo Telefone, written by Donga and Mauro de Almeida, considered the first recording of a samba.
