Band,
Bakin Zub ensemble was created by Marko Ciciliani in 2005, when he invited five highly profiled musicians from different backgrounds like contemporary classic, pop/rock, electronics, free improv, etc. to perform his music. Electronic processing of instruments is an integral part of Bakin Zub's artistic output, as well as combining sound and light – Ciciliani wrote his own software to control both, using the same principles to approach musical and visual material. The band first appeared on stage in 2006 during the renowned 'Night of the Unexpected' as part of the Gaudeamus Music Week in Amsterdam. Marko Ciciliani wrote four programs for Bakin Zub so far. My Ultradeep I (2007) multimedia piece for 5 musicians and light was performed on stage with 3 tent-like semitransparent textile sculptures, created by Japanese artist Kyoko Inatome. Next piece, Jeanne of the Dark (2008) for 5 musicians, electronics, video, light and laser was premiered at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music festival. This work was created in collaboration with Terre Thaemlitz. It was later released as Jeanne Of The Dark CD by Ahornfelder label. Heterotopolis (2011/2012) was a 60-min composition for 3 musicians, ambisonic live-electronics, lighting, 3 monochromatic laser beams and RGB laser, co-produced by the ZKM and premiered as part of the ARD Hörspieltage 2012. For 'Heterotopolis' Ciciliani worked closely with visual artist Marcel Bühler, who created 3D laser design and special circular screen for it. Bakin Zub's most recent full program is titled Suicidal Self Portraits (2014) and includes five compositions, connected with video-interludes. 'Suicidal Self Portraits' were premiered in April 2014 at the Forum Neue Musik on Deutschlandfunk.
