A.k.a. Fontanellis Sonic One
In 1977 he started his career with a radiostation. In 1980 he became the sound engineer of Spot The Looney, a band from Rotterdam (the Netherlands), this is were he learned his craft. After that he worked for the industrial group KIEM, Rick de Vito, Spasmodique, Candy Dulfer, Hans Dulfer, Back to Basic, Handsome3Some, Defunkt and Bill Evans and Push to name a few.In 1982 he started the illegal radio Detroit which played alternative music. In 1987 he started to work as light engineer at Nightown, a venue in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and did the sound for the first house parties together with Klaas Van Noort PA Service. In 1990 he founded the youth centre Checkpoint Charlie with Ben Dubbeldam, mainly based as a streetwork environment. He did a European tour with MTV as soundengineer. In 1991 he founded the radio station Cat FM in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) together with DJ Peter Peter. Cat FM was the legal division of Supercat Radio, a illegal station that played HipHop and House from 1987. Cat FM dj's were Denz Da Denz, Ronald Molendijk, Andre Dadi, Mark the Shark, Eugene, Martin and Eline. Together with Ronald Molendijk he started to do mixing work. He made the compilations Turn Up the Bass 3 and 7. In 1994 he founded his mastering studio Sonic One (Rotterdam, the Netherlands), where the first mix releases of DJ Tiësto were recorded at Sonic One. For Tiesto he recorded, edited and post produced 22 albums and recorded and mixed 3 live DVD's in his own HD surround studio. He recieved 8 Golden Records and 3 Golden DVD's for it. He worked as international demonstrator for Peavey,Soundcraft, JBL and Lexicon. In 1999 he founded the DJ/dubmix duo Fontanellis together with Peter Nyborn with who he release one CD, named Paris , Jerusalem, London. On this CD you will hear MC Tab LLoyd, rapper E-life and female singer Rose. It was one of the first act thet combined dubmixing and a DJ. In the live sessions many times Kino Dido (keyboards) and Rose (vovals) played along. In 2000 he moved to the countryside of the Netherlands and founded another company Event Connection for wireless networks with which he made the largest wireless networks at Dance Valley,Lowlands a big dance event in the Netherlands. He stopped with this company in 2004, the world was not ready for wireless.... In 2006 he produced together with XPLO music a huge show in the harbour of Rotterdam during the Volvo Ocean Race. In this show 150.000 people watched Tiesto live, while all techniques were running wireless, thanks to the knowledge of Event Connection.They where nominated for that with a Gouden Giraffe and Barney proofed his technology was ready for events. In 2007 he did showcontrol for Tiesto's Elements of Life tour. In 2008 he toured with Dutch illusionist Hans Klok as head sound. Today Barney designs tailormade concepts for company's. Here he combines the expertise of sound, light, video , showcontrol and a future look. He did live sound mixing engineering for the following artists: Spot The Looney (1980-1987), Kiem (1984), Rick De Vito (1985-1991), Spasmodique (1986-1993, 2003), Sue Chaloner (1986), Hermes House Band (1988), Candy Dulfer (1988), Defunkt (1993), Bill Evans (1994), Push (1994), Hans Dulfer (1998), DenzDaDenz soundsystem and DJ Tiësto (2004).
