Jazz
This albums is guitarist Barry Wedgle's recorded debut. He has chosen to present his eclectic musical aesthetic in a collection of diverse settings which include both traditional and unconventional small groups, a big band with a Latin percussion section and a women's choir. Born September 1, 1953 and raised in Denver, Barry's first musical influence was "jazz standards," the hit parade of the 30s and 40s. Next was rock and bebop. During the extraordinary influx of world music in the 60s, flamenco also attracted him. Drummer Jerry Granelli's group "Visions" was Barry's introduction to post-Bop and free jazz traditions of which he now has great command as evidenced by this recording. His playing is marked by a powerful attack, rhythmic security, and an oblique sense of phrasing, elements that have characterized some of the most inventive improvisors in jazz. -- Paul McCandless Special Thanks for inspiration to Jerry Granelli and Katey Palmer Thanks to: Victor Levine Bernard Katz Tasha Brown Stewart Hamell Ted Ringer
