A.k.a. The Baskervilles
Baskervilles were formed in 1997 in New York City from the ashes of Tampa punk band Baskervils (1993-1996) by singer/guitarist Rob Keith, percussionist Craig Van Orsdale and bassist Christoph Gerozissis. Guitarist Chris Carlino joined the band briefly in 1997-1998 and appears on one recording released by the band, ‘Staying There For A While’, completed for the 3rd and final Baskervilles album, Twilight. Keyboardist, singer and violinist Stephanie Finucane joined the group in 1998 and became a member until the group dissolved in 2008. Musically, the group were inspired by new wave, 1960s British Invasion music, French Pop and melodic independent pop. Baskervilles nearly disbanded in the early 2000s, until they were discovered on the web by Chris Newkirk and Secret Crush Records label owner Gregg Weiss, who released and tirelessly promoted the band's first 2 offerings. The self-titled debut album (2003) was recorded and mixed by producer / engineer Mitch Easter, who also mixed the band’s final album Twilight (2008). The group also recorded a self-produced EP in 2005 called Midnight, featuring original songs and covers of the Television Personalities ‘La Grande Illusion’ and the Bartlebees ‘Pictures of You.’ Baskervilles only played four shows outside of New York City, including a gig in Zurich, Switzerland, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. Their Seattle appearance also included a radio session with KEXP. After a hiatus and a songwriting course with Ray Davies in 2013, Rob Keith formed a new project called The Estate Owns The Ghost Show in 2018.
