Bench was a 4-piece pop punk / ska band from Seoul, Korea, that existed in the mid 90's. It consisted of Sean (vocals and guitar), Billy (guitar), Tim (bass), Jimmy (drums), Miles (drums). Tim and Billy met Sean in the summer of 1994 (outside of the Jam Hut practice studio on the Yongsan army base); they bonded over shitty punk records and decided to start a band. Jimmy Coles was their first drummer & they recorded a demo with him in the summer of 95, before he moved back to the US & eventually joined MI6 (Kung Fu Records). Miles Sexton replaced Jimmy, and they played with him on drums until summer of 97, when they all moved back stateside. In the summer that Jimmy left (or maybe that fall) their friend took them to this basement bar in Hongdae called Drug, the first punk rock club in South Korea. Drug had 2 house bands at the time, Yellow Kitchen (a moody, noisy indie band similar to Sonic Youth) and Crying Nut. They brought their guitars and auditioned to see if they'd let them play, and they didn't say no. After that, they spent basically every Saturday night for the next 2 years hanging out at Drug, watching the punk scene explode, and playing with bands like Crying Nut and No Brain (2), who are punk rock royalty in Korea now. They recorded a full length, self titled CD for Drug Records in 1997.
