Classical, Electronic and Rock
Beth McDonald is a classically trained tuba player gone awry. She works largely in the fields of electroacoustic music, the American avant-garde, jazz, and free improvisation, but also performs in classical and pop/folk music settings. You can hear her perform with the Callithumpian Consort, Korean Jeans, cbs trio, Seraph Brass, Boston Modern Brass, and the Dog Brain Ragtime Band, among other groups. Previously, Beth has performed with Sound Icon, Discovery Ensemble, and the Brian Friedland Big Band. As Artistic Director of the August Noise JP concert series for four seasons, she worked to bring unexpected music to public spaces and to engage her fellow musicians in their community. Beth studied tuba with Skip Gray at the University of Kentucky, and with John Cradler prior to that. She then received her Masters from New England Conservatory, working under the guidance of Stephen Drury, Tanya Kalmanovitch, John Mallia, and Ted Reichman.
