Latin and Jazz
Betinho E Seu Conjunto (Betinho And His Band) was a Brazilian musical group active from the early 50's to the early 60's. They recorded a variety of styles and genres such as Samba, Baião, Jazz, Choro, Fox and others, but are known the most for their few Rock 'n' Roll recordings. Even though it wasn't their main genre at first, from 1957 to around 1959 they wrote and recorded a number of Rock 'n' Roll songs that would become iconic such as "Rock Do Galinheiro" and "Enrolando O Rock" (arguably their most important Rock song, which was even recorded by Cauby Peixoto, one of Brazil's most important artists). Not only that, but they also were the very first Brazilian group to write and record Rock 'n' Roll songs, which made them recognized as pioneers of the genre in Brazil. The group disbanded in the early 60's. In the mid-60's, Betinho became a born-again Christian and started writing and recording Gospel music - once again becoming a pioneer by being the first Gospel guitarrist in Brazil. He passed away in 2000, at the age of 82.
