A.k.a. Robert Bickford
Robert Bickford was a Daily Mail reporter who, in 1963, put himself up for 'grooming' as a pop star by Robert Stigwood Associates Ltd. The paper covered each stage of his progress, the culmination of which was the release on 11 April 1963 of his record, (The launch party took place at the Dorchester Hotel the previous night.) The prolific Charles Blackwell penned this and directed the orchestra. Parlophone pressed 10,000 copies and Bick went on tour with the likes of Mike Sarne, John Leyton, Mike Berry and Billie Davis to promote his one-off disc, with no chart success (thanks to fellow 45catter 'manticore' for the info)
