Australian producer/engineer, who established Armstrong Studios, one of Australia's major recording studios, in Melbourne in 1965. He began his career working in electronics for live sound, before establishing his own home studio in 1949. He has played a major role in the Australian recording and broadcast industries since then, establishing the Australian labels, Paramount (3), Magnasound (2) and Danceland in the 1950s and Captain Quaver in 1970; setting up the disc cutting room and recording studio of W & G Studios; supervisiong The Studio Of Telefil (Aust.) Co. Pty. Ltd.; and helping to set up radio stations 2EA, 3EA, and EON FM (now 3MMM). He received the ARIA award for Lifetime Contribution to the Australian Music Industry in 1999, the APRA Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music in 2006, and the National Film and Sound Archive Cochrane‐Smith Award for Sound Heritage in 2011.
