US jazz pianist/arranger/composer. Born: December 07, 1917 in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Died: February 28, 1989 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Father of jazz pianist Reggie Moore (2). Billy worked (as arranger), among others, with Jimmie Lunceford, Charlie Barnet, Jan Savitt, Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Tommy Dorsey. He spent a year with the band Jimmie Lunceford And His Orchestra (Sy Oliver personally brought him in as his "replacement" in June, 1939) and left a vital impression with his Belgium Stomp, Monotony In Four Flats, and the hits Chopin's Prelude #7 and What's Your Story Morning Glory? He quit over acrimonious monetary disputes.
