Birds Of Paradise is Olivier Py's trio created in 2012, and inspired by bird songs and Olivier Messiaen. The compositions of Olivier Py for this trio are inspired by fragments of Messiaen’s transcriptions of birds songs, or are freely derived from their musical vivacity. There are various musical proposals based on this exceptional material : rhythm, harmony, timbres, forms… like many possible approaches to this abundance of rhythmic and melodic forms. The result is a music of multiplicity, contemporary jazz, both free and structured by the strict vocabulary of the transcriptions.
