Canada's Blasphemy are one of the original black metal bands of the second wave of black metal and innovators of war metal. The band was initially formed in 1984 by singer/bassist Nocturnal Grave Desecrator And Black Winds and drummer 3 Black Hearts Of Damnation & Impurity, soon joined by guitarist Caller Of The Storms, and then later by second guitarist Black Priest Of The 7 Satanic Rituals, but it wasn't until 1986 that the band was officially knighted Blasphemy. A demo called Blood Upon The Altar was then recorded at Fiasco Bros. Studios in 1989. After this Traditional Sodomizer Of The Goddess Of Perversity replaced Black Priest Of The 7 Satanic Rituals. Live shows took the band into the United States, during which time they signed to Wild Rags Records and release Fallen Angel Of Doom.... in 1990. Traditional Sodomizer left in 1991 and Black Priest returned to take his original place. Around the same time the band recruited bassist Ace Gustapo Necrosleezer And Vaginal Commands, and Black Winds focused solely on vocal duties. After a brief period of inactivity, the band signed to France's Osmose Productions, and recorded Gods Of War at Fiasco Bros. Studios but the band's relationship with their new label was cut short when a band member was allegedly arrested in the Amsterdam International Airport smuggling a female friend and some narcotics. The band claims drummer 3 Black Hearts was "rowdy on the airplane." Black Winds left the fold and the band once again went on hiatus. After years of being dormant, the band reformed for the year 2001 and began recording and touring again. In this incarnation the second guitar slot was filled by Conqueror (2) cofounder R. Forster a.k.a. Deathlord Of Abomination And War Apocalypse, and Bestial Saviour Of The Undead Legions performed bass duties. A reformation show was arranged for Friday the 13th of July, 2001 and released as Live Ritual: Friday The 13th by Nuclear War Now! Productions.
