A.k.a. Franz Thier
* 30. Juni 1958 † 08. Juni 2016 In his main job Franz Thier ran a car dealership in Söchau, Styria but many knew him only under his stage name "Blue Thier". Together with the "Coco Band" founded in 1981, he had a nationwide chart success with the "Penguin" - a cover version of the Rolling Stones hit "Honky Tonk Woman" in the following years. Thier was a big name in the (East) Styrian music scene and also wrote songs for Boris Bukowski and Carl Peyer. The first line-up of the Coco Band included former EAV members Nino Holm and Andi Beit. Covering well-known pop songs with East Styrian lyrics was the hit recipe of "Blue Thier & The Coco Band". These include "Allanig" ("So Lonely" by The Police), "Norbert" ("Davy's On The Road Again" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band) or "Hausmasta" ("Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr.). "Blue Thier & The Coco Band" have been performing again and again at 80s events and also at the "Kultrock" festivals in Fürstenfeld they were a fixture. Blue Thier died unexpectedly in his 58th year.
