Bob Bowen III

A.k.a. Robert Emmett Bowen III

Jazz bassist, originally from Dayton, OH. He began living and working in New York City in 1996. He studied classical double bass at the Cincinnati College Conservatory and jazz bass performance at the Manhattan School of Music, completing his master's degree at the latter in 1998. He taught music theory and directed jazz combos at the Queens College CSPM program and the Manhattan School of Music Summer Jazz Workshop. Additionally, he was a long time faculty member of the Miami Valley Summer Jazz Camp. He also taught bass at Hofstra University. On August 30, 2010, Bowen died after being struck by a truck in a hit-and-run accident on Second Avenue in Manhattan while riding his bicycle. He was 45 years old.
