The Material

Album DE 2014 on Serve & Destroy Rec. label
Dance (Drum’n’Bass)

From the official release-info: “The air is full of information, for the spies of today...” What do you get if you combine the witty production skills of a breakbeat & studio veteran like Bob Humid, and the banging soundworks of an upcoming artist like Scale, especially considering their pretty congruent musical taste for bad ass precision Drumfunk of the likes of Ed Rush, Optical, Photek, Alpha Omega, Dom & Roland or Hidden Agenda? Exactly, a pulsating critical mass in form of a techsteppy D’n’B-slammer that will surely find many friends along the lines of those who love tracks with an emphasis on character. “The Material” departs from generic structures that are flodding the media world today and D’n’B in general. It combines a complex arrangement of a crisp 2-step-beat with biting synth-lines, syncopated percussions à la “Helicopter”, some very heavy and bolshy brass works, all wrapped up in a slim-tie-secrent-agent-soundtrack -suite that is best enjoyed with a dry martini in one hand. The “B-Side” - with its John Barry-esque harmonies and very tweaky upbeats and breaks - suits perfectly to the mission: “And The Prototype Smiled...” is one of those extremly rare tracks that feature sophisticated sound-design and manual hyper-editing that was so typical from the era when producers like Photek and Hidden Agenda where concordantly considered the upmost club music elite by the media. So don’t you wonder: Bob kept this extraordinary track, which he produced back in 1999(!), hidden in his vaults for 15 years, just to wait for the perfect moment to release it...
