As a solo performer (guitar/vocals), Bobby Vann toured Canada and the USA performing at coffee houses, Taverns, Bars and Lounges. His performance engaements were managed by Billy O'Connor Enterprises and by the Buddy Madden Talent Agency. In May 1965, at Hallmark Sound Studios He rehearsed and recorded "Somebody New", a song written by by Skip Prokop and Bill Marion (The Paupers). The musical track was performed by The Paupers. The B-side "My Carolyn" was written by Bobby Vann; the musical track was performed by The Paupers. When the record was released, it was well recieved and given considerable air-play in south-western Ontario, the Ottawa region and in the maritimes. For reasons unknown to this day, this record, despite its popularity (request-lines and juke-box popularity), was not made available to record stores. For a number of years afterward, Bobby Vann continued to perform as a "solo act" and was a regular performer at a number of Toronto night-spots such as Baffles Tavern in Yorkville, Steeles Tavern, The Brown Derby, The Westbury Hotel and the Seaway Hotel, to mention a few. His day gig was as a social worker for the city.
